Kit mixes, dispenses and sprays conformal coating

Kit mixes, dispenses and sprays conformal coating
Electrolube just launched a one-time use kit to mix, dispense and spray its 2K300 conformal coating. The kit is said to offer advantages for customer trials and spray-testing requirements as it facilitates full testing and evaluation of the 2K300 series without taking existing dispensing equipment out of production. 2K300 is a two-part system, offering  flexibility and low stress across an operating temperature range of -40 - +130°C. The coating is hydrophobic and is said to be highly resistant to condensation, salt mist and chemicals and is fully IPC-CC-830 compliant.

Aromatic and Halogen-free acrylic coating

Aromatic and Halogen-free acrylic coating
Electrolube has introduced a  halogen-free, acrylic conformal coating, HFAC. It has been developed as a solution for manufacturers who require a coating, formulated without the use of aromatic solvents or chlorinated and, bromininated  flame retardents that can created hazardous and highly corrosive species during a fire.  For specific customer applications, HFAC will entirely eliminate the negative issues associated with halogenated materials and issues with aromatic solvents, presenting an excellent coating alternative.

Cicada wings could inspire next-gen surface technologies

Cicada wings could inspire next-gen surface technologies
Researchers are looking to insects - specifically cicadas - for insight into the design of artificial surfaces with de-icing, self-cleaning and anti-fogging abilities. Their wings allow cicadas to fly, of course, but they also are good at repelling water - a condition that humans can appreciate, too. "Our work with cicadas is letting us explore a field called bioinspiration," said Nenad Miljkovic, a University of Illinois mechanical science and engineering professor who co-led a new study of cicada wings.

Low viscosity conformal coating cures with light

Low viscosity conformal coating cures with light
Dymax 9452-FC from Intertronics is an electronics conformal coating formulated with a new technology as an alternative to thin, solvent-based conformal coatings. Whilst it has a very low viscosity – 20 cP – it still provides good electrical insulation and protection against humidity, plus what the company describes as very good thermal shock and corrosion resistance.

Gel coatings lead to better catheters and condoms

Gel coatings lead to better catheters and condoms
Catheters, intravenous lines, and other types of surgical tubing are a medical necessity for managing a wide range of diseases. But a patient’s experience with such devices is rarely a comfortable one. Now MIT engineers have designed a gel-like material that can be coated onto standard plastic or rubber devices, providing a softer, more slippery exterior that can significantly ease a patient’s discomfort. The coating can even be tailored to monitor and treat signs of infection.

Biobased anti-corrosion coatings research paper at EuroCorr 2017

Biobased anti-corrosion coatings research paper at EuroCorr 2017
It has been revealed that several raw materials employed in the production of conventional anticorrosion coatings pose severe threat to environment and human health. The hazards have led to surge in government regulations that have restrained anticorrosion coatings market growth. Global market trends are moving towards sustainable and renewable materials as public is becoming more aware of importance of utilising environmentally safe solutions.
