A coating system for EMI/RFI applications, claimed to be high performing, has been developed by Master Bond. MB600G is a water-based, sodium silicate system with graphite filler, making it suitable for shielding applications such as those within the electronics and aerospace industries.

Shielding effectiveness is measured by attenuation. It is defined as the difference of an incoming intensity of the source and its decrease after it passes through the coating. MB600G was tested with aluminium as the reference material, based on test method IEEE 299, 2006. Unlike other systems, this shows little variation throughout the 1-18GHz range. At 1GHz, it is 40dBs, and at 18GHz it is 45dBs, with the highest reading of 50dBs at 1.2GHz and the lowest of 27dBs at 1.8GHz. MB600G is also temperature resistant, with a service temperature range from 0 to +371°C.

Being water-based, the system is also safe to use and can be both brushed and sprayed on. MB600G will cure at room temperature in 24-48 hours or in 1-2 hours at 80°C and features a shelf life of six months in its original, unopened containers at room temperature.
