Trajectory control is added to line of hexapods

A line of hexapods, from Newport, has had RightPath trajectory control added as a new standard feature. The added feature resolves a problem inherent in most parallel kinematic motion devices – the run-out along the trajectory in the user’s coordinate system. 

RightPath provides precise control for movement along straight lines and arcs that follow a defined path within the user’s coordinates. This is in contrast to how most hexapods only provide point-to-point motion capabilities - the coordinate transformation from the user to the system coordinates are only done for the start and the end points.

Using parallel kinematic devices like hexapods in applications with very constricted space conditions can result in unpredicted collision problems if the path between the start and end points of a motion is not properly defined. Newport’s RightPath trajectory control now enables fully controlled motion in a path along a defined trajectory, line, arc, or rotation.

RightPath complements the two pivot point concept making Newport hexapods, the company claims, the most flexible and easily programmable parallel kinematic products in the market today with an unprecedented amount of control over the hexapod's trajectory.
