3D printed ovary implant restores fertility in mice
Northwestern University scientists have created a prosthetic ovary using a 3D printer, which allowed mice that had their ovaries surgically removed to bear live young. The results were presented on the 2nd of April, at the Endocrine Society’s annual meeting, ENDO 2016, in Boston.
3D printed robots will be made of both solids and liquids
In their latest paper, researchers at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) present the first-ever technique for 3D printing robots that involves printing solid and liquid materials at the same time. The new method allows the team to automatically 3D print dynamic robots in a single step, with no assembly required, using a commercially-available 3D printer.

3D printing could help fix damaged cartilage
Athletes, the elderly and others who suffer from injuries and arthritis can lose cartilage and experience a lot of pain. Researchers are now reporting, however, that they have found a way to produce cartilage tissue by 3D bioprinting an ink containing human cells, and they have successfully tested it in an in vivo mouse model. The development could one day lead to precisely printed implants to heal damaged noses, ears and knees.
Study tackles piracy issues caused by the use of 3D printers
University of Exeter experts will work to develop a solution to the growing problem of piracy caused by the increasing use of 3D printers. Academics will carry out research in China to resolve copyright issues posed by the new technology, which allows the copying of physical objects by scanning them. They hope to develop a single system for protecting intellectual property which could be used around the world.
