The industrial 3D printing hub

It has been announced that APWORKS, an industry provider of 3D printing services and products, has launched AMXpert, a new online platform, software solution, and 3D printing market place for additively manufactured metal parts.

APWORKS’ AMXpert combines cost analysis, printability checks, and the entire order process. The part screening to identify suitable parts for additive manufacturing is based on a unique artificial intelligence algorithm using machine learning algorithms that include validated print job data as well as evaluations of the part’s optimisation potential.

With this platform, the delivery of individually 3D printed parts is only a few clicks away, as customers can now order and validate their metal 3D printed parts directly within the platform. They can upload the part geometry, and AMXpert automatically checks each part for printability, calculates costs and specifies the delivery date. Based on print job data and machine learning algorithms each uploaded part will be automatically assessed and positioned in the ideal orientation for 3D printing.

The platform allows customers to choose from various high performance materials, including AlSi10Mg, Scalmalloy, Ti6Al4V, and 1.4404. Post-processing steps may vary between heat treatment, machining, and a surface finish. Quality tests include CT Scans, 3D Scans, and much more. The qualification process involves test series required for qualification certificates such as CoC or EASA Form one.

Joachim Zettler, Managing Director at APWORKS, stated: “Virtual technologies and additive manufacturing are enabling the industrial world to achieve more while producing less waste, weight, and costs, as well as freeing designers to explore complex shapes that could not be manufactured using traditional processes. AMXpert is fast, intuitive and beneficial. By enabling a fully digital process chain in one tool, from part screening and analysis, to optimisation potential assessment, to price calculation and the online order process, it truly brings additive manufacturing to the next level."

Prices cover the costs for the entire metal additive manufacturing process, including printing and costs for various metals. Additionally several post-processing steps and qualification processes can be integrated as well. It is furthermore possible to specify a requested delivery date to enable a priority production time, and to provide customers with real time updates on the order status of their parts.

Customers can also benefit from a mass upload of their data to find the best suited parts for metal 3D printing. All uploaded geometries are analysed and undergo an automatic suitability check for additive manufacturing. This provides customers with an overview on which parts have a high optimisation potential when 3D printed, enabling up to 70% of savings on printing costs.

Matthias Hegenbart – Airbus Manager ALM (3D Printing) & Bionic Plateau / Hamburg, added: “I am fascinated by the methodology that APWORKS uses with its AMXpert platform to identify suitable AM components from our range of parts. This software accurately reflects the requirements we urgently needed.”

By initiating a direct online order and offering a complete digital process chain, AMXpert allows customers to streamline their additive manufacturing process, thus helping them to exploit the full potential of this manufacturing method. Digital technologies such as the new AMXpert platform can help accelerate the large scale adoption of this innovative manufacturing technology and take metal 3D printing to a new level.
