Allowing the copper panel and phototool to be aligned with total accuracy, Rainbow Technology Systems has released an updated version of its desktop coating system. The Desktop Coater features a camera system mounted on an overhead gantry for operators to manually adjust the position of the phototool until it is perfectly aligned. Double-sided panels can be processed as a result of back to front alignment.

Incorporating coating, laminating, imaging and UV curing, the Desktop Coater can produce fine line detailing of 20µm and better on boards up to 18” x 12” (460mm x 305mm). It is suitable for use in laboratories and research environments to produce prototypes and manufacture small scale circuit boards.

A coating bar is used to spread liquid coating, driven by an automatic traverse system. This automatic traverse system ensures consistent movement speed and thickness of the coating, therefore guaranteeing repeatable processing. Supplied with dispensers for spoils paper and laminating material, the machine features an integral contact cleaning system which removes contamination during the operation.

Chris O’Brien, Sales and Marketing Manager, Rainbow Technology Systems, comments: "The Desktop Coater offers a highly cost-effective solution for any organisation which has to produce prototype circuit boards or for short production runs. Such organisations can benefit from the advantage of not having to interrupt other high volume equipment. With the addition of alignment capability the Desktop system becomes an even more viable and useful product."
