Expanding the company's range of convection rework accessories, Metcal has announced the Solder Ball Placement Kit. This selection of tools was identified in order to enable the operator to rework small components with repeatability and consistency.

The Solder Ball Placement Kit includes the tools necessary to rework small chip components, particularly components such as 01005, 0201, 0402 and 0602s which can be difficult and require specialised tools.

The kit is comprised of:

  • 2000 each of 0.04, 0.06, 0.08mm and 0.10mm solder balls with container;
  • Four ESD-safe carbon fibre reinforced oilers; black 0.2, blue 0.3, green 0.5, and red 0.8mm;
  • One part positioning matrix and squeegee;
  • One PEEK spudger;
  • One bent tweezers;
  • One half tweezers;
  • One 5000 grit sharpening stone.

“The popularity of 01005 components has generated a new rework challenge making it virtually impossible unless carried out by expensive rework equipment. This kit, added to a hot air pencil, provides a complete and effective solution for reworking most small components at a low cost," commented Paul Wood, Advanced Applications Manager, Metcal.
